Your Body Knows Before Your Brain Does: Subtle Signals That Deserve Your Attention

ree

The whispers, nudges, and weird little "off" feelings that are trying to save you from a breakdown*

You ever just feel off… but not in a way you can fully explain?

Maybe your energy dips, your digestion’s funky, or your left shoulder suddenly feels like it’s carrying 400 pounds of crap—but when you try to pin it on something, your brain shrugs and goes, “IDK. You're fine.”

Yeah, no.

You’re not fine.

You’re just not listening yet.

Here’s something I’ve learned—through my own healing journey, from working with hundreds of clients, and honestly… from ignoring my body until it screamed at me:

Your body always knows before your brain does.

The Whispers Come First

Whether it’s an injury brewing, a hormone shift, emotional overwhelm, or straight-up burnout, the signs usually come in quietly at first. I call them body whispers—tiny cues that something’s shifting under the surface:

  • You’re breathing shallow without realizing it

  • You keep clenching your jaw

  • You're craving sugar or salt like it owes you money

  • Your sleep feels like a nap, not recovery

  • You can’t get into a stretch the way you used to

  • You’re on edge—but not sure why

  • Your body feels "buzzy" even when you’re sitting still

Most people brush these things off. They chalk it up to aging, bad posture, being busy, or “just needing more coffee.” But those whispers?

They’re warnings.

And when you ignore them?

They get louder.

Body Awareness: It’s a Real-Life Superpower

This is where body awareness comes in—yep, that thing I keep shouting from the massage table rooftops. When you start tuning in to these subtle signals early, you can actually do something about them before your body hits you with the full-body “nope.” I speak from literal experience with myself and am paying for it because I ignored the whispers. Not to scare you...well maybe LOLOL.

I’ve worked on people who didn’t realize how tense their quads were until I legit just touched them ever so lightly.

Your body tells you. You just gotta learn to read the subtitles.

Want to learn what body awareness is in more detail?

I wrote a whole post about it Click here! to read it. 😉

Real Talk from My Massage Table

Here’s how this shows up for me every week with clients:

  • The shoulder that won’t release no matter how much we work it… until the client finally exhales and softens their grip on life (literally).

  • The person who says, “I’ve just been tired” and then five minutes into the session, their legs feel like they’ve been carrying bricks.

  • The client who bursts into tears out of nowhere—not because they’re sad, but because their body finally had space to feel again.

These are the moments when we shift from “tight muscles” to deep healing.

How to Start Listening Early

Tuning in doesn’t have to be complicated. Here’s how you can start hearing your body before it starts yelling:

🌀 Do a breath check. Are you breathing into your ribs and belly… or just holding your breath all day like it’s a core workout?

🌀 Scan for clenching. Shoulders, glutes, jaw—are you gripping when you don’t need to?

🌀 Track your patterns. When does tension hit? After emails? After training? After that one specific human interaction?

🌀 Feel what feels "off.” Even if you can’t explain it—acknowledge it. That’s the beginning of trust.

🌀 Ask instead of judge. Try: “What do you need right now?” instead of “Why are you being weird, body?”

Final Thoughts & Recap

Your body isn’t random.

It’s not trying to betray you.

It’s trying to guide you.

The tension, the fatigue, the sugar cravings, the emotional spikes—those aren’t glitches. They’re signals. Ya Aint in the Matrix Bruh!

Your body knows.

Before the injury.

Before the burnout.

Before the breakdown.

All you have to do is listen.

And if you’re ready to build that kind of connection, start slow. Get curious. Get quiet. Ask questions.

And if you need help?

Well, you know where to find me.

I’ve got a massage table, some deep tissue know-how, and about a decade and a half of real-talk healing wisdom waiting for you.
