Yep, thats the picture I'm using đ¤¨
You ever feel like your body is straight-up yelling at you, but you have no idea what itâs saying? Like a toddler throwing a tantrumâyouâre pretty sure itâs important, but itâs hard to decode through the piercing sound of noise. Tight shoulders, random cravings, exhaustion that even your third coffee wonât fix? Thatâs your body waving red flags and yelling, âYo, "B", pay attention to me!â
What if I told you that you could actually speak body language? No, not that kind of body languageâI'm talking about your body speaking to you and you speaking back. Like a two-way convo, but with fewer words.
Once you learn to decode what your bodyâs trying to say, you can respond in ways that lead to GAINS, not pains (And yes, I totally just rhymed that because Iâm a badass rapper now. Okay, fineâmaybe just a bad rapper. But so what? Iâm still dropping my rhymes, yo! đ)
Alright, letâs break it down YOâugh, no, that sounded way cooler in my head. But you get what Iâm saying, right? Letâs dive in.
Why Is My Body Screaming, Anyway?
If you have ever been on my massage table, one thing I repeat is: "Sometimes things get worse before they get better." The screaming you're FEELING, is typically the "worse" part of those pains. But surprisingly, your body doesnât want to make life harderâit wants to keep you alive, healthy, and thriving. But when you ignore those little whispers (pss, hey, we're sort of aching over here), it has no choice but to crank up the volume.
Your body is your actual life coach whoâs trying to keep you in the game. It doesnât scream âREST!â for funâitâs trying to protect you from burnout.
How the Heck Do You Decode Your Bodyâs Language? Whatâs It Even Trying to Say?
Your body doesnât come with subtitles, so figuring out what itâs trying to tell you can feel like cracking a secret code. Lucky for you, decoding bodies is literally my career! Over the years, Iâve learned that while everybody is different, every BODY is kind of the same⌠you know what I meanâŚ.yo.
Iâve worked on over almost 7,000 bodies on my table (yep, I did the mathâno joke!). From my own experiences to all those hours on the massage table, hereâs what Iâve learned about what your bodyâs signals really mean. Letâs break them down so you can stop guessing and start listening. This is just a short list btw, there is no right or wrong way to listen to your body. It's all literally about paying attention. And, these are general translations because sometimes the body wants to be complicated and complex, making you put "it's complicated" for your relationship status with it. But here are three that are easy to pay attention to:
1. Fatigue That Even Coffee Canât Cure
Translation: Itâs time to slow down and recharge. Think quality sleep, real rest (yes, that means no doom-scrolling), and fueling your body with nutritious foods that deliver actual energyânot just a sugar high.
2. Tight Shoulders or a Stiff Neck
Translation: Stress isnât just in your mindâitâs making a home in your muscles too. Whether itâs from endless emails or carrying the weight of the world (or both), your body is asking for a breather. Try some quick stretches, roll your shoulders, or take a moment to exhale deeply. Seriously, relax.
3. That Persistent Ache in Your Hips or Low Back Translation: Tight hips and low back discomfort are your bodyâs not-so-subtle way of saying, âEnough already!â Take breaks to stretch, walk, or move around. Your body doesnât love being crumpled in a chair all day, so show it some TLC.
Lesson Here? Ignoring = No bueno!
Ignoring your bodyâs signals might work in the short term, but long-term? It leads to burnout, injuries, and straight-up misery. On the flip side, when you listen to your body, you build trust. And trust is the foundation for making real progressâwhether thatâs in fitness, wellness, or just life in general.
HOME WORK TIME::::BER BER BER BERRRRRRR!!!! (bullhorn sound btwđ)
This week, take five minutes each day to check in with your body. Ask:
How do I feel right now?
Whatâs one small thing I can do to feel better?
Remember, the goal isnât to âfixâ your bodyâitâs to partner with it. Because when your body feels heard, it works WITH you, not against you.
I'd love for you to share your experiences. Comment below âŹď¸
