My Honest Experience with Magnesium Glycinate, Taurate & Malate

I’ll be the first to admit — I used to avoid magnesium like the plague. Years ago, someone suggested I take magnesium to help with stress, but no one told me there were different types of magnesium. I grabbed a random kind off the shelf… and let’s just say it helped me clear things out in the bathroom, a little too aggressively. That was enough for me to swear off magnesium — and honestly, most supplements — altogether.

Fast forward to real life happening…

Not long ago, I got rear-ended in a car accident. It wasn’t just the physical side of it — the mental stress hit me hard. Between anxiety around driving, worrying I wouldn’t be able to work the way I normally do, and — the worst part for me — being sidelined from workouts, my mental game took a huge hit.

My doctor recommended I try magnesium again, this time specifically Magnesium Glycinate, known for being gentler on the digestive system and helpful for both muscle recovery and stress. I was skeptical, to say the least. The last thing I wanted was to deal with bloating or running to the bathroom when I was already feeling physically wrecked or stopped up and poopin rabbit pellets out of my bum. But I was desperate for something to help calm me down — my anxiety was through the roof, and sleep? Pretty much non-existent.
That’s when I actually started sleeping through the night.

Why I Tried The Allwise Magnesium Blend

Full transparency? It had good reviews, and they were running a deal for two bottles at the time. That was enough for me to at least try it. I later realized I lucked out — this particular blend wasn’t just Magnesium Glycinate. It also included:

  • Magnesium Taurate — often linked to supporting calm, relaxation, and cardiovascular health

  • Magnesium Malate — thought to help with energy production and muscle recovery

  • Plus some bonus ingredients like Vitamin D, C, B6, Calcium, Potassium, and Zinc, which support overall nutrient metabolism

It wasn’t marketed as some “miracle cure,” but I liked that it combined different forms of magnesium with other nutrients that could help with stress, sleep, and recovery. And — big win — it didn’t upset my stomach. Even bigger win, the gummies were shaped like little red bears 😂 The child in me was like "Hell ya!" 😆 I took it at night to be safe, but thankfully no bloating, no indigestion, and definitely no sprinting to the bathroom.

What Happened When I Started Taking it

To my surprise, I started noticing I was falling asleep a little easier. For the first time in a while, my body felt like it was getting a break from being stuck in overdrive. Was it the magnesium? The combo of nutrients? Finally giving my body something it clearly needed? Probably all of the above.

It also helped me feel a little more grounded mentally. I wasn’t magically stress-free, but I felt like I had more bandwidth to handle the mess of everything post-accident.

Quick Breakdown: Types of Magnesium in This Blend

If you’re as confused as I was about magnesium types, here’s a quick, non-sciencey rundown:

🧩 Magnesium Glycinate – Known for being gentle on digestion, often used for stress reduction and sleep

🧩 Magnesium Taurate – Linked to promoting calm and supporting heart health

🧩 Magnesium Malate – Often suggested for muscle recovery and energy production

Some blends focus only on one type. This one combines them, which I personally liked for the overall support — especially with all the chaos happening in my life at the time.

Do I Still Take It Now?

These days, I’ve switched to Lunakai Magnesium + L-Theanine (My Review) — mostly because the added L-Theanine has been a game-changer for my deeper sleep. But honestly? The Allwise blend played a big role in helping me reset after that stressful season.

Both worked for me in different ways — Allwise was my introduction back into magnesium, and Lunakai has been what I’ve transitioned to for ongoing sleep and stress support.

Not Medical Advice: Just Real Life

Let me be super clear: I’m not a supplement expert, influencer, or scientist. I’m just sharing what’s worked for me. Magnesium blends affect everyone differently. Some people love Glycinate, others swear by Malate or Taurate… and some folks don’t tolerate magnesium well at all. It’s all about experimenting (with your doctor’s guidance) to figure out what your body actually needs.

That’s how I landed on this — trying things, paying attention to how I feel, and keeping what works.

At the end of the day, this is just me sharing what’s been helping in my world. Everybody’s body is different. If you’re curious about trying magnesium or blends like this, definitely chat with your doctor first. And don’t be afraid to experiment a little — that’s honestly how I’ve figured out what works for me. Trial, error, and paying attention. Your version of 'what works' might look totally different — and that’s okay.

It's all about Body Awareness
