My Magnesium Story: The Good, The Bad, The Bathroom Drama

When I first started taking magnesium for stress, I didn’t realize there were different types. I grabbed whatever I saw online and said "Let's go with that one"  (Ya, I know great way to choose right? 😂 ) — 👎🏽 Cue the bathroom runs. I basically gave up on magnesium after that.

Years later, I circled back — this time for muscle recovery and stress. I found a blend with Magnesium Glycinate, Taurate, and Malate. It helped me fall asleep faster, but I was still waking up at 4 a.m. consistently. It felt like it was sort of working, but something was missing.

I stuck with it though, bought it 3 times actually! I used Allwise — it supported calm, sleep, muscle recovery, and even focus.

Check out my review on that brand: Click Here — I still think it’s a solid product.

But here’s where things changed.

Lunakai sent me their Magnesium Glycinate + L-Theanine to try. I was skeptical, but also almost out of my old stash, so I said, "Why not?"

That’s when my sleep got deeper.
That’s when I actually started sleeping through the night.

I Didn't Know I Needed

L-Theanine

L-Theanine wasn’t on my radar before this. Turns out it’s an amino acid commonly found in tea that helps promote relaxation and stress reduction — without making you groggy.

This combo — Magnesium Glycinate + L-Theanine — just hit different for me.  It helped me fall asleep and stay asleep. I stopped waking up at 4 a.m.

That extra few hours of deep sleep made a noticeable difference in my muscle recovery, energy, and stress levelsthroughout the day.

Wait, What The Heck is L-Theanine? And No, I'm Not A Scientist...I just do my research.

Let me just start by saying — I’m not a doctor, scientist, or supplement influencer. I’m just someone who’s been on a mission to figure out how to feel better, recover better, and actually sleep.

Quick and simple version?
L-Theanine is an amino acid that can help your brain and body take the edge off. It’s known for promoting calm, supporting focus, and helping with sleep — but without that heavy, sedated feeling.

What L-Theanine Might Help With

(According to Smarter People Than Me):

  • Calming the nervous system (aka helping your brain take a breather)

  • Supporting focus and mental clarity — some folks even use it during the day

  • Helping promote better, deeper sleep — especially paired with magnesium

  • Taking the edge off stress without knocking you out

Why I Think the Magnesium + L-Theanine Combo Works

(For Me Anyway)

Magnesium helps my body chill out. L-Theanine helps my mind do the same. Together? It’s honestly been a solid little duo for winding down and staying asleep longer — which has been huge for my recovery and stress levels.

Again — I’m not claiming this is the thing for everyone, but sharing what’s been working for me in case you’re on a similar path trying to untangle the stress-sleep-recovery puzzle.

At the end of the day, this is just me sharing what’s been helping in my world. Everybody’s body is different. If you’re curious about trying magnesium or blends like this, definitely chat with your doctor first. And don’t be afraid to experiment a little — that’s honestly how I’ve figured out what works for me. Trial, error, and paying attention. Your version of 'what works' might look totally different — and that’s okay.

It's all about Body Awareness

Final Thoughts:

The One That Stuck.

I honestly didn’t expect much. Supplements can feel hit or miss, and I’ve tried enough of them to know a lot end up sitting in my cabinet half-used.

But this one? It stuck.
Not because it was gifted to me.  But because it actually helps me. It’s been an easy add-on to my routine when life feels fast and recovery feels low.

Is it a miracle product? No.
Does it consistently help me sleep better and recover better? More often then not.

And that’s enough to keep me coming back.
