Why I'm Not Setting 2025 New Year's Resolutions: Resets Over Resolutions or Go Home!

The arrival of a new year often brings the pressure to set big resolutions. These all-or-nothing goals sound exciting at first—“I’ll work out every day!” or “I’ll finally stick to that diet!”—but for me, they’ve always felt like a setup for stress and disappointment. Resolutions tend to frame success as a finish line, and anything less than perfection feels like failure. At least that 's what it feels like whenever I make these dang resolutions.

This year, I’m taking a different approach. Instead of chasing big, rigid outcomes, I’m focusing on small, mindful resets that I can carry with me throughout the year. Here’s how I’m shifting my mindset and my fitness wellness routine in 2025:

1. I'm going to stop "Shoulding" on myself.

For too long, I’ve operated on a list of what I think I "should" do. I should work out harder. I should eat better. I should push through discomfort. But who decided all these “shoulds” anyway? This year, I’m tuning out the noise and listening to what my body truly needs. Instead of trying to meet these stupid little "should" expectations, I’ll focus on what feels good and supports my overall wellness—not just physically, but mentally and emotionally too.

2. Choosing Resets Over Resolutions

Rather than committing to an intimidating, year-long goal, I’m embracing the power of resets. These are small, intentional moments to realign and re-energize myself. Resets can happen any time: a quick stretch break during a busy day, an evening walk to clear my mind, or simply pausing to breathe deeply. Or literally giving myself permission to not be perfect in that moment! These little actions add up and create momentum that’s far more sustainable than any grand resolution.

3. Embracing Movement That Feels Good

This year, I’m exploring a balance between energizing and gentle movement. YOMO(yoga+mobility) with ME here I come! Fitness doesn’t have to mean pushing myself to the brink; it’s about finding joy in movement, whether that’s a sweaty workout that leaves me feeling strong AF or a slow yoga flow that helps me reset and recharge. By focusing on what feels good in the moment, I’m building a routine that’s both sustainable and enjoyable.

4. Creating Space for Natural Growth

This has been a new thing for me lately...letting go of rigid goals. I'm taking this into 2025 with me to open up space for growth that feels natural and organic. Instead of forcing myself into a plan that might not fit my needs, I’m allowing room for flexibility and curiosity. This approach not only feels more sustainable but also keeps me engaged and excited about the journey. Because sometimes, I need me some of dat chocolate cake or couch potatoe day!

5. Upleveling My Fitness Wellness

In 2025, I’m redefining what fitness and wellness mean to me. It’s not just about physical strength or hitting specific milestones—it’s about feeling stronger inside out. By tuning into my body, balancing movement with recovery, and prioritizing mindful resets, I’m building a foundation that supports my long-term well-being. #lfg

The Takeaway; Take it or leave it 😂 😜

This is how I see it: Resolutions may work for some people, but they’ve just never been my jam. And that’s okay. What works for me might not work for others, and vice versa. Instead of rigid goals, I’m focusing on small resets, intentional movement, and creating space for growth that feels natural. If you’ve ever felt the weight of resolutions, I invite you to join me in trying this gentler, more intentional approach. Let’s make 2025 the year of thriving, one mindful reset at a time.
